About the Role

We're looking for an Azure Cloud / Platform Engineer to support the infrastructure and platform layer of a modern, AI-driven application.

Despite the common title, this is not a traditional data engineering role — there's no BI work, no reporting, and no heavy ETL pipelines. The focus here is on cloud infrastructure, system integration, and deployment.

The core Azure environments (Dev / Test / Prod) are already pre-provisioned by the client. Your job will be to configure and wire services within those environments rather than stand up the cloud footprint from scratch. You'll enable the system that powers the application — a critical, behind-the-scenes role for someone who values clean execution over over-engineering.

The initial engagement is a 2 to 2.5 week project. If things go well, there's a strong likelihood of continued work — the client has outlined roughly two years of potential follow-on engagement, though only the initial six weeks are formally committed at this time.

Responsibilities

• Configure and wire Azure services within pre-provisioned environments to support application workloads.
• Implement data ingestion pipelines using Azure services.
• Configure and manage Blob Storage, event-driven architecture, and cloud-based databases.
• Set up secure access using managed identities and role-based access control (RBAC).
• Support application deployment and CI/CD workflows.
• Write lightweight Python scripts for automation and integration.
• Run AzCopy operations for large-scale data backfills from source systems into Blob Storage.
• Configure Application Insights for monitoring, logging, and alerting.
• Create clear documentation and operational runbooks.
• Collaborate with application engineers to ensure seamless platform integration.

Requirements

Azure Cloud Expertise — hands-on experience with:

• Azure App Services / Functions / Container Apps
• Azure Blob Storage
• Event Grid (topics, subscriptions, and BlobCreated triggers)
• Azure SQL or similar relational databases
• Application Insights for monitoring, logging, and alerting
• AzCopy for bulk data movement into Blob Storage

DevOps & Infrastructure:

• Experience with Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD tools
• Proficiency with Azure CLI or PowerShell
• Experience with Docker and containers

Security & Identity:

• Managed identities
• Role-based access control (RBAC)
• Secure, cloud-native authentication approaches

Programming & Data:

• Strong Python skills (automation, scripting, integrations)
• Solid understanding of SQL and database performance tuning

AI Tooling Experience (Required):

• Hands-on experience with AI-assisted development tools, with demonstrable real-world usage in delivering working solutions.
